As we visited our old stomping grounds it was fun to relive some of the memories and even visit some old friends. It was great to watch as the distant memories that had almost become like a dream to our boys slowly reawoke inside them as they recalled their time at our old home, the parks they used to play at and of course - Disneyland.

After swimming each night in the hotels pool, we also had fun visiting and playing in the ocean near the Balboa Pier in Newport Beach. We frequented our favorite restaurant in Garden Grove and spent three action packed days at Disneyland and California Adventure where the boys were trained as young Jedi warriors and even squared off against Darth Maul and Darth Vader themselves.
Will faces his fears and battles the evil Lord Vader to a standoff with the help of his new Jedi training.

At first, the boys weren’t sure about our suggestion since they had neither seen nor heard of a Scottish Warrior, but all their worries drifted away when we bot their swords, battle axes and a some war paint for their faces. They did seem pretty confused when they had to keep telling people that they were not Braveheart and instead were Scottish Warriors.

While the kids were dressed for battle we chose a slightly different theme.
Click family picture to the right to see Grandma Hadfield’s Halloween Party photo gallery.

We were a bit slow in our timing to catch the most brilliant display of the season, but there were still enough color amongst the trees to capture some fun photos.

We’re still not sure where the boys learned their unique posing styles, but we wonder if Will’s had too much exposure to some trendy clothing magazines recently.

Left: Andrew, Steven & Will attempt a ‘normal’ pose.

Right: Will showing us “how he rolls.”

It is always gratifying to watch the kids expressions and to listen in on their conversations as they witness a single fish struggles up a more rapid section of the stream or to see another whose completed its journey and floats near the bank having given up the ghost.

Maybe it’s a stretch to think that the kids will be astute enough to make the correlation of the great sacrifice that the salmon roe’s parents make on its behalf with that of their own parents but we all come away uplifted by this great spectacle of determination, sacrifice and great beauty.

Ken, Henry, Steven, Will & Andrew enjoying the scenery.

Only the three oldest boys, who we thought could probably sneak onto most rides, made the trip with us but we had such a good time that we plan to bring the others with us the next opportunity we get.

Steven, Will, Andrew, & Laura react differently after finding out we couldn’t all go on one of the nearby rides.
